The Course
Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women (1 in 833 men), which means it is likely you will have clients who will be diagnosed with breast cancer or will come to you as a survivor. The Jill Hinson Method for Breast Cancer Teacher Training Workshop will offer you a toolbox of knowledge about breast cancer and how to safely teach clients affected with this disease. You will be introduced to breast anatomy, subtypes and stages of breast cancer, breast cancer surgery, breast reconstruction, chemotherapy, radiation, lymphedema, and exercise after surgery. While encouraged to teach with compassion, you will learn contraindications, modifications, and tips for working with a client who is battling breast cancer. You will learn how to measure for lymphedema and how to assess ROM, and receive case studies to explore. We will have fun with movement while learning the 10-Week Method created by Jill to offer a studio or home-based fitness program, working four components of exercise important for all bodies; this includes aerobic, ROM, balance, and strength training with Pilates. This workshop will briefly introduce you to Core Compassion Compassion Project, a 501(c)3 nonprofit offering post-rehab Pilates scholarships, and how you can get involved.
** Note: There is a required test at the end of the workshop for anyone seeking NCPT credit. You will receive 7 NCPT CECS.
